With the release of President Obama’s birth certificate, Donald Trump no longer has a reason to think about running for president. He had no other issue to talk about besides the president’s birth certificate. When asked about other issues, he said insane things like he would force OPEC to lower oil prices. Beyond that, now the issue is over, who in the Republican Party will publicly call Trump out for his slanderous lies?
Trump said the president’s birth certificate did not exist. We all know this is not true because the president released it this morning. In an interview with Anderson Cooper Trump said, “Well, I’ve been told very recently, Anderson, that the birth certificate is missing. I’ve been told that it’s not there and it doesn’t exist — and if that’s the case it’s a big problem. I’ve just heard that two days ago from someone — I don’t want to say who.”
Trump said the president did not write his first book, “Dreams of My Father”. He has no proof Obama did not write the book he just made the claim. In an interview Trump said, “Barack Obama wouldn’t be president — and, you know, I wrote many best sellers, and also, number one bestsellers … So I know something about writing. And I want to tell you, the guy that wrote the first book didn’t write the second book. Obama made a big mistake when he wrote the second book. Because the second book was not Ernest Hemingway, it was about 37 classes below. So, the first book is Ernest Hemingway-plus. The second book was written by somebody that was much more average.”
Not to rest on two nonsensical issues, Trump went for the trifecta, saying the president somehow got into Harvard without being qualified. Once again, Trump has no proof of what he is saying, but with the Donald, proof is not needed. In another interview Trump said, “I heard he was a terrible student, terrible. How does a bad student go to Columbia and then Harvard? … I have friends who have smart sons with great marks, great boards, great everything and they can’t get into Harvard.”
The thing that stands out is Trump’s use of words. He says, “I’ve been told” and “I heard”. He does not actually have proof of what he is saying. He has no definitive knowledge of the topics he espouses. Yet, no one in the GOP has called Trump out. Not the Speaker of the House, not the Minority Leader, not the chairman of the GOP.
The Republican leadership is scared of upsetting the birthers but what they seem to forget is election coalitions win elections, not one party. Who among them, anyone in the party will do, will stand up and tell Trump and the rest of the conspiracy theorist to sit down and let the grown folks do the work? There is a vacuum of leadership in the Republican Party and the GOP is glad the president bailed them out on this one.
