The Powerball winning numbers are worth $48,000,000 for the right player who correctly matches all six Powerball numbers on Wednesday, June 22, 2011. If you only match the first five numbers, and not the red Powerball, but buy a PowerPlay ticket, you’ll instantly win $1,000,000!
How Much Money Will You Get if You Win Tonight’s Powerball?
Since no one won the Powerball jackpot during the drawing last Saturday, tonight’s jackpot has risen to an estimated $48,000,000 annuity, or a $25,400,000 cash-value lump-sum before taxes. Federal taxes will run you 25%, and all state taxes vary. Say your state imposes 7% on lottery winnings. After all is said and done, you could end up with about $17,272,000 in your pocket if you choose the cash option. Not bad for a day’s pay!
A Feel-Good Powerball Winner’s Story
A cancer patient from Lawrence, Kansas, has been playing the same Powerball numbers—birthdates of family members—for 18 years and never won a jackpot. He had forgotten to play last week and thought about hanging up the game for good.
However, he bought one more Powerball ticket and matched five white Powerball numbers, but not the red Powerball, for $200,000. Had he played the PowerPlay option for another dollar, he would have automatically won $1,000,000.
Still, the Kansas Powerball winner was happy to have the extra money to help pay for radiation and chemotherapy treatments. According to ABC’s KMBC.com, the winning Powerball ticket was purchased at the Kwik Shop on 4841 W. 6th St. in Lawrence, Kansas.
