The Winter Solstice 2009 arrivied with a vengence for the East Coast. The Winter Soltsice arrived on December 21, 2009 and is referred to as Yule for it is the shortest day of the year. The Winter Solstice is the shortest day because the earth’s axial tilt is the farthest from the sun today. The Soltice arrives at 12:47pm today according to the U.S. Naval Observatory.
As we get ready for our Yule celebratons, the Northeast is digging out of record snow, and the midwest is getting ready for a white Christmas. I can hear Bing Crosby singing now.
Take heart, America, the days get longer starting tomorrow.
