Women Should Support Democrats, Says Richard Hanna

By pushing bills that essentially deem the ladies incapable of making their own decisions regarding their reproductive choices, the Republicans have reignited the proverbial torch signifying an official war on women. Requiring ultrasounds before abortions, extending abortion wait times, and limiting access to contraception, some may say they have gone too far. Grand Old Party policymakers have historically been anti-woman, opposing girl in the military and equal pay for equal work, as well as stating they need men’s permission to have an abortion and comparing them to farm animals. Did anyone tell them that the shes make up 51 percent of the population?

However, New York Representative Richard Hanna, a pro-choice Republican and co-sponsor of the Equal Rights Amendment, is tired of it. He is telling ladies, straight out, if you want to protect your rights, support the Democrats. He said:

I think these are very precarious times for women, it seems. So many of your rights are under assault. I’ll tell you this: Contribute your money to people who speak out on your behalf, because the other side—my side—has a lot of it. And you need to send your own message. You need to remind people who you vote for, you matter, and that they can’t succeed without your help. This is a dogfight, it’s a fist fight, and you have all the cards. I can only tell you to get out there and use them. Tell the other women, the other 51 percent of the population, to kick in a few of their bucks. Make it matter, get out there, get on TV, advertise, talk about this. The fact that you want [the ERA] is evidence that you deserve it and you need it.

He then said he wasn’t back-stabbing his own party, the dear old Republicans.

Thank you, Mr. Hanna, for saying it out loud. The Republican party wants to take this country back to the 1950s, where women spend their days cleaning and making the perfect meatloaf. No more careers, choices, or rights. Do you really think June Cleaver was that happy? Most women enjoy their rights as citizens and aren’t going to give them up without a fight. Republicans, beware.
