Woody Harrelson cropped by David ShankboneIn all the random guessing and predictions from the world’s movie critics, Harrelson wasn’t listed as one of the possible actors up for the role of Haymitch. Yet, he’s the absolute perfect fit. As Haymitch, he’ll need to act like a drunk, but one who still manages to care for his tribute Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence), because he believes she can win. With his extensive movie and TV resumé, Harrelson long ago proved he can do this role.

In addition to working with Katniss, the character of Haymitch also develops an interesting relationship to Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) over the course of the three The Hunger Games books.

It will also be interesting to see Harrelson act alongside the District 12 escort, Effie Trinket, who will be played by Elizabeth Banks, in the The Hunger Games movie.

In addition to the Haymitch casting news, Lionsgate also announced the District 10 tributes today.
