‘Words’ Flops Along With ‘The Cold Light Day’

Both new films, Words and The Cold Light of Day flopped this weekend as the box office took another nose dive. So which film came out on top? Take a look and see.

That would be The Possession. The scary thriller took the top spot for the second week in a row, leaving most of the other films in its dust. It raked in $3 million more than its nearest competition. However, don’t let that fool you. It wasn’t a good box office weekend for any movie.

The highly hyped Bradley Cooper vehicle whereby an author steals someone else’s literary masterpiece, couldn’t even earn second place status. That went to last week’s Lawless, starring Shia LaBeouf. It finished at $6 million.

Words did manage to hold on to third place, but barely. It earned $5 million. The fourth place, Expendables 2, was right behind it with $4.8 million.

The Bourne Legacy kept going with $4 million. It rounded out the top five. The remaining films in the top 10 included ParaNorman ($3.8 million), The Odd Life of Timothy Green ($3.7 million), The Campaign ($3.5 million), The Dark Knight Rises ($3.3 million) and 2016: Obama’s America ($3.28 million).

The Bruce Willis and Henry Cavill vehicle, The Light of Day, didn’t even make the top 10. It seems the new Superman doesn’t have much drawing power. He pulled in just $1.8 million.

Movie theater owners are praying the box office gets a boost next weekend with the release of Finding Nemo 3D and the latest installment in the popular Resident Evil film franchise. They may, however, find themselves disappointed as Americans pull in their belts to save money. Only time will tell.
