John Cena will undergo a cautionary MRI tomorrow after being hurt during tonight’s taping of Raw. During WWE’s flagship show, Cena fell out of the ring awkwardly and tweaked his knee a couple of times as the main event star from Survivor Series was in hot pursuit of Dolph Ziggler. The trainees and doctors acknowledged the injury backstage and reported that Cena “may have a torn meniscus” as they assessed the 10 time champion moments after the incident. Interestingly, the injury was also acknowledged on the air during live television, something that not often happens in the wrestling industry.
A few hours later John Cena took to Twitter to explain the situation to his fans.
“I am headed to grand rapids right now for an early morn MRI on left knee. @WWE, no matter what the result, I will be in the ring tomorrow!”
Whilst the seriousness of this injury is unknown, it is unlikely that it will see John Cena out of action for any length of time. It has been well documented about Cena’s long run with little niggling injuries like this, also the blowup between himself and Vince McMahon backstage a couple of weeks ago, and whilst the injury is legitimate, the fact that WWE talked about it on the air during the live taping of Raw highly suggests that a creative angle will be made out of this, especially with all the talk of John Cena getting Dolph Ziggler ready to step into the main event. It is not often Vince McMahon and the creative team talk about injuries directly to wrestling fans during a show, so the possibility of a angle being born from this is almost 100% certain, with potential TLC implications coming from tonight.
