It is now official, the 30th anniversary of entertainment’s greatest spectacle, Wrestlemania, will take place inside the New Orleans Superdome on April 6th 2014. WWE made the announcement official during a livestream today after many rumours, including a tweet from New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees, had leaked that New Orleans would be the host of wrestling’s grandest show in 2014.
It is only fitting that the 30th anniversary of the week long Wrestlemania would be held in such a massive stadium, and again, a stadium which hosted the Superbowl a year before. Back in 2007 when Ford Field played host to Wrestlemania 23, more fans attended the event than the Superbowl, which was hosted by the same venue just a couple of months earlier. Some fans will be greatly saddened by this news, as it has become somewhat of a tradition for Madison Square Garden in New York to host Wrestlemania every 10 years, but considering the huge rise of Wrestlemania, its popularity with the fans which draw massive crowds in the 100,000 region, WWE obviously feel like an arena like Madison Square Garden which only holds around 20,000 people wouldn’t be large enough for Wrestlemania, the Superbowl of wrestling.
Not to mention that WWE have never taken Wrestlemania to the same city 2 years in a row, not forgetting that this year’s Wrestlemania, Wrestlemania 29, will take place at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
So a tradition has ended today, Madison Square Garden wont host Wrestlemania 30, but fans in the New Orleans area will be celebrating long and hard today.
How do you feel about Wrestlemania 30 being held inside the Superdome?
