In a new round of WWE rumors for 2012, it appears the possibility of The Undertaker making his return for WrestleMania 29 in 2013 is up in the air. The “Deadman” is currently missing in action from WWE, with gossip that he could be back for the Royal Rumble in January, but whether or not he defends his undefeated streak at Mania is questionable.
According to Wrestling Inc in a brief update on Undertaker, it appears the decision for a WrestleMania 29 appearance is ultimately up to him. The site reports:
“Regarding The Undertaker wrestling at WrestleMania 29, it’s said that the decision is all up to him at this point. There is talk of using him just in the Royal Rumble main event if he doesn’t want to come back for a full WrestleMania storyline and match.”
That sort of news is probably going to disappoint a lot of fans of “The Phenom”, but as of right now he is one of the older competitors hanging around with WWE. While he’s got a very large fanbase which extends back to the days of the WWF and his encounters with the likes of Hulk Hogan, Mankind, Kane, and even El Gigante, he also has to worry about the health of his body. Much like Edge who retired due to doctor’s orders and not wanting to end up in a wheelchair, The Undertaker may decide the same.
However, if one were to write the perfect ending to his story, he would fight one more match at WrestleMania 29, at the very least, and possibly recapture one of the major championships. His decision to retire could come soon after that as the championship is vacated. It seems a star with the magnitude of The Undertaker deserves that sort of departure, if his time to leave the business is in the next year or so.
Rumors have suggested Taker could fight Brock Lesnar or Ryback at the next WrestleMania. Do you think The Undertaker will fight at WrestleMania 29, and if so who will his opponent be?
