In the latest WWE rumors of 2013, an exclusive interview with The Rock talks about his upcoming reality TV show, The Hero on TNT, as well as whether or not he has wrestled his last match. The concerns had been raised that Dwayne Johnson may in fact have done so as he sustained an abdominal injury during his championship match against John Cena at WrestleMania 29. Will The Rock return for WrestleMania 30 in 2014, and if so, who will he face?
An interview on YouTube from Hot97’s Peter Rosenberg, features about six minutes of “The Great One’s” time, as he talks about his new TV show, The Hero. The show will have various individuals competing in heroic feats, with a big monetary prize on the line. Johnson talks about how he loves reality TV and loves that he gets to be himself for the new show, which is coming June 6 to TNT.
However, the real rumors and dirt have been about whether or not Rock is going back to Hollywood and leaving WWE in his dust. With a major injury sustained while wrestling John Cena, it may be smart for Rock to do so in order to preserve the high-paying Hollywood action film career. Rock made some interesting comments in the new video interview piece, including him telling Rosenberg that the plan had been to do three straight WrestleMania Pay-Per-Views. That would include WM30, which takes place in New Orleans in 2014. When asked if Rock would fight Cena for a part 3 in their matches, Rock actually said the plan was for a match with Brock Lesnar.
Interestingly enough, there had been rumors that Rock left an episode of Raw without talking to anyone in WWE, to which Rock tells Rosenberg that was untrue. He said “it’s just not the way I do business.” Rock mentioned that he talked to Vince McMahon that night, and also talked with CM Punk, Triple H, and others about his situation. So in fact, it was a lot of rumors going viral online that made it sound like Rock was brushing off WWE and just leaving in dramatic fashion without talking to those in charge.
As for whether or not he has wrestled his last match, Rock said “possibly.” While that isn’t a definitive answer, he’ll need to do what is best for his overall career situation. Many Hollywood studios probably won’t want to spend money on him as a top box office star if he’s going to be injured and unable to perform the level of work they require. It might not please many WWE fans to hear that, but to expect wrestlers to only wrestle forever is a bit unreasonable as well.
How do you feel about The Rock’s situation? Do you want him to return to the ring for WrestleMania 30? Do you think there should be a “rubberneck” match between Rock and Cena, since they’ve each won a match at WrestleMania against each other?
