The WWE rumors in early 2013 continue to circulate regarding when The Undertaker will return to WWE? It’s been mentioned before that one plan is to have him go against CM Punk at Wrestlemania 29, since it’s possible Punk won’t have a top notch opponent, but the backstage reports right now seem up in the air. Will Undertaker be back for another shot at extending his streak at WrestleMania?
With the Elimination Chamber matches coming up on Sunday, it’s always possible that The Undertaker could surface there, maybe after the CM Punk vs. Rock match. However, it seems more likely he would show up on an episode of Raw, to bring in more TV viewers and ratings. That said, a recent report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter via Wrestling Inc says:
“It’s said that Taker does not want to come back and have to fake his way through a mediocre match, which is why his status is up in the air. He had major shoulder and hip surgery over the past year which made it impossible for him to do any serious training for a long time. Taker couldn’t lift upper body because of shoulder rehab and couldn’t do lower body because of the hip rehab.”
The other news was that Undertaker did not appear backstage during this past Monday’s episode of Raw in Nashville, Tennessee. However, he was in town for an NHL Nashville Predators game. He also reportedly had a meeting with Vince McMahon while he was in town. Quite possibly this meeting was to discuss his health and his status for the upcoming WrestleMania 29 in early April.
The most logical opponent for The Undertaker would be CM Punk. If Taker’s unable to go, that leaves Punk up in the air for what he’ll do at WrestleMania. The guy deserves a top notch match on the card. Some have speculated that should things fall through and “The Deadman” can’t return for WM29, then Punk would get inserted into the match with The Rock and John Cena for the WWE title, making it a Triple Threat. However, most believe the plan is for Cena to get the clean, outright win over The Rock.
No matter what, it looks like Undertaker would be back again, probably for WrestleMania 30 which is in 2014. He’ll be 49-years-old at that stage of his career, which has spanned several decades and brought in plenty of fans of his wrestling performances and “Deadman” gimmick.
Do you think The Undertaker will be back for WrestleMania 29? If he is not, who should CM Punk fight against at Wrestlemania in April?
