LeAnn Rimes’ duet with X Factor finalist Carly Rose Sonenclar on Wednesday night was a hot mess. The country crooner tried to outsing and steal attention from the 13-year-old and appeared to be drunk or overly medicated (although she denied it). And then she had the audacity to blame her poor performance on Carly Rose—and the runner-up’s family is pissed!
According to TMZ, “Carly Rose’s mother and other relatives are telling people they can’t believe LeAnn threw their daughter under the bus, and that it was clear—Carly Rose was a pro and even out-performed LeAnn at her own song.” The Sonenclar family’s fury is in response to LeAnn releasing a statement in which she claimed she was sober and “was trying to help this 13-year-old girl who was having some trouble with the song.”
LeAnn had to be drunk (or in denial) if she thinks Carly Rose was having trouble with “How Do I Live.” Maybe that particular song wasn’t the best choice for the 13-year-old, but she clearly had the best voice on the show this season and consistently hit every note. Plus, Carly Rose didn’t make LeAnn grab onto her to keep her balance, stumble around the stage and appear to burp. That duet might have cost Carly Rose the $5 million recording contract, so no wonder her “mother is livid” and “family is royally pissed off”! When LeAnn first denied that she was drunk, she claimed that she’s always been a “professional onstage,” but how “professional” is it to blame your own poor performance on a 13-year-old? Maybe LeAnn needs to go back into treatment.
