Yoko Ono, Widow of Beatles’ John Lennon, Turns 80

Yoko Ono, the widow of The Beatles’ and solo artist John Lennon, celebrates her 80th birthday on Monday, February 18th.

According to a report from Philly.com, the octogenarian claims she has no plans to slow down, despite her age.

Not everyone knows that Ono has become huge in the mashup/remix dance songs genre—a favorite of today’s DJs. She has had nine number one hits on the Billboard Dance charts.

“I say I’m a lucky girl,” she relayed via an email interview.

In addition to music, Ono has long had her hand in the art world as well. Whether displaying and selling her own work or touting that of late husband John Lennon, she is an icon in many facets of the cultural world.

Did you know that Lady Gaga is a scholar of Ono? Did you know that avid punk rockers consider her to be the first to perform their genre? There’s clearly way more to this lady that simply being known as the woman who brought The Beatles down.

It takes a special ear to appreciate Yoko Ono. She didn’t make it on the conventional music charts. But more than thirty years after John Lennon’s death, and at the age of 80—she very clearly has made it big—on her own.
