Zooey Deschanel’s May 2012 Marie Claire Interview

Zooey Deschanel has a famous family but she’s definitely made a name for herself in the entertainment industry in film, music, and most recently television. She stars in the Fox comedy New Girl. She was even nominated for a Golden-Globe for her performance as the quirky, yet adorably insecure Jess. Perhaps the reason Deschanel’s portrayal of Jess is so convincing is because the character’s personality isn’t so different from her own.

In the May 2012 issue of Marie Claire Zooey Deschanel tells J.R. Moehringer about the success of New Girl, her recent divorce from Death Cab For Cutie lead singer, Ben Gibbard and the wisdom that comes with getting older.

While most women hate the idea of getting older, the opposite seems to hold true for her. The 32-year-old actress says that “Getting older is awesome-because you get more practice,” according to the Marie Claire article.

And she’s definitely had a lot of practice with acting. Before she landed the role on New Girl, she appeared in several films including Cameron Crowe’s Almost Famous (2001) and the indie-comedy 500 Days Of Summer (2009) opposite Joseph Gordon- Levitt.

This talented actress has shown business in her blood. Her mother is also an actress and her father is a cinematographer. And of course her sister Emily is one of the stars of the Fox drama Bones. You can catch her on New Girl Tuesdays at 9 p.m./8c.

But she’s isn’t riding anyone’s coattails. In addition to her many appearances in film and television, she’s also part of the folk-rock band She & Him, and the current spokesperson for Rimmel cosmetics. She even has her own blog and has an astounding 1.8 million followers on Twitter.

Despite her current success, some people still might consider her an outcast. In the article, she says, “People do think I’m weird…I don’t know why.” Some people might think she’s weird, or maybe they’re jealous of her celebrity status.

New Girl may be the name of her television show, but Zooey Deschanel’s definitely not the new girl in the entertainment industry anymore.

The May issue of Marie Claire (available April 17) also features great fashion and beauty ideas for spring.
